Connected in Het Weefhuis, Lagedijk 39, Zaandijk,

Open za 15 en zo 16 juli van 13 – 17 uur, vrij te bezoeken.

De titel Connected heb ik bedacht, omdat ik de kunstenaar met wie ik ga exposeren heb ontmoet via Instagram. Onze werken hangen straks naast elkaar, maar ik zal haar misschien nooit spreken!

Toen ik net actief was op Instagram werd ik enthousiast van de mogelijkheid om mensen over de hele wereld te bereiken. Ik zag dingen die mij raakten en de makers lieten merken dat dat omgekeerd ook zo was. Maar alleen afbeeldingen bekijken en verspreiden vond ik niet genoeg, ik wilde iets doen!

Dit is de eerste samenwerking en ik ben zo benieuwd wat jullie er van vinden! Ik vind het in ieder geval heel spannend en Kendra ook. Haar foto’s en mijn schilderijen raken elkaar, overlappen elkaar en voelen verwant. Zullen ze elkaar versterken, is er een connectie?

Zij woont in Seattle in de evergreen forests van de Pacific Northwest. En ik kom uit de polder van Noord-Holland. Verbonden door het landschap … en Internet.

My name is Kendra Komppa and I am a full time artist (photographer and painter), living near Seattle WA USA.  I have 25 years art experience and have exhibited my art in Florida, Oregon and Washington.  I’m excited to be participating in my first international exhibition in The Netherlands this summer, wherein I will be sharing my abstract landscape photography alongside my talented friend and fellow artist, painter Joanne Zegers.

 
The act of making art is, for me, like being able to breathe, to live fully and practice freedom.  I am inspired to be living and healthy, breathing in the present moment wherever I am, full of its endless variety and subject to the law of constant change.  When I’m not making art, I’m waiting as patiently as possible for the next opportunity to enjoy this freedom once more.  My universe is split in two.  Part of me interacts and reflects upon the outer world through photography.  The other part, the painter, is reclusive and dwells in total solitude in a studio.  Photography relies on my need and ability to venture and explore, to meet the variety directly. The rush happens when I find that vibration and make my connection with that place.  I live in the evergreen forests of the Pacific Northwest, so you will see it specifically in my photos and feel my connection to this landscape in a figurative sense.  But, my love of abstraction is a reflection of my isolation and introspection.  The feeling of this place, or any place, and this experience is communicated in pictorial terms and can’t be uttered with words or described in a literal sense.  I need both forms of expression.  I experience both realities.
